Teenaged Ren and his mother move from Chicago to a small farming town and run face first into rigorous municipal edicts, including a ban on dancing by the local pastor. When the pastor’s daughter shows a romantic interest in Ren, her uncouth boyfriend vows to destroy Ren’s reputation in the community. At the heart of the story, however, is a father reeling from tragic loss and a young man longing for the father who abandoned him. This Tony Award-nominated musical, featuring a top 40 score, dynamic new songs & soaring ballads, is based on the Academy Award-nominated film. It’s a celebration of forgiveness, healing, reconciliation, and community.
Audience Advisory: Recommended for ages 12 & up. Contains suggestive language and discussions of a tragic car accident.

Swedish-Norwegian violinist Johan Dalene is a rising star. He won the 2019 Carl Nielsen Competition. In 2022 he was named Gramophone’s Young Artist of the Year. He is now performing with major orchestras in the great concert halls of Europe and North America.
Dalene’s first recording was praised by BBC Music Magazine as “one of the finest violin debuts of the last decade.” His second disc of Nordic recital music received a prestigious Diapason d’Or.
In 2018 Johan was accepted into the Norwegian Crescendo programme where he was mentored by such luminaries as Janine Jansen, Leif Ove Andsnes, and Gidon Kremer. He plays the 1725 ‘Duke of Cambridge’ Stradivarius, on loan from the Anders Sveaas’ Charitable Foundation.

Production students are mentored
