In 2019, a small group of Métis and First Nations women met and began a weekly inclusive singing and hand drumming circle. Instructor Wenonah Justin member of Cook’s Ferry of the Nlaka’pamux nation with Cree ancestry is a traditional singer, Knowledge Sharer and Drum Carrier. She shares the traditional Salish teachings she learned from Salish Elders in Tiqilip Community Singers.

In the pursuit of helping themselves and others reclaim a culture that was denied to them, D.R.U.M.C. practices Love, Unity, Inclusivity, Acceptance, Indigenous languages, Stories, and Songs.

We will be gathering on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territories of the Stó:lō People. Specifically Semá:th (Sumas), Mathexwi (Matsqui), and Laq’ámel (Mission) First Nations. This is also the lodging home for the Fraser Valley Métis Association, a chartered community of Metis Nation BC (MNBC).

The Abbotsford Farm & Country Market was established in 2003 and is operated by the non-profit Abbotsford Farm & Country Market Society.

The inaugural Fraser Valley Economic Summit, hosted by the Fraser Valley Business Coalition (FVBC) will be held at Evered Hall in the Student Union Building at UFV.

This one-day summit will feature an inspiring program of leaders from across British Columbia, in addition to local voices that showcase the economic potential of our region, and the many initiatives that are currently underway and shaping our community.

We will be gathering on the traditional, ancestral, unceded, and shared territories of the Stó:lō People, specifically in the Sem’a:th (Sumas), Mathxw’i (Matsqui) and Leq’a:mel (Mission) First Nations. This is also the lodging home of the Fraser Valley Métis Association.

This weekly gathering circle is made possible by the partnerships with the Mamele’awt Indigenous Education Centre and Metis Nation BC (MNBC) and our volunteers’ generous and dedicated support.

This season, VIEW Dance Challenge will be entering its 11^th year of production. From its inception to present VIEW continues to operate with the unique goal of delivering a dance experience like no other. Through the creation and implementation of a platform for young, aspiring dancers to celebrate the art of dance. VIEW has become a second home, a community and exciting dance environment for dancers across the globe. The past 11 years have allowed VIEW to learn, grow and continue to evolve through innovative and creative approaches.

VIEW is a professional, unique and reputable International Dance Competition that proudly operates in nine Canadian provinces and two different countries. As the competition locations continue to grow globally, so has the VIEW Family. This is clearly demonstrated through the outstanding roster of Event Directors, Staff and Adjudicators that all share a common goal of dedicating their skills to the art of dance.

The plan builds on our current accessibility achievements to date and has been created to meet the legislated requirements of the Accessible British Columbia Act.

In 2007 the founding board members of the Run for Water Society conceptualized a unique event to be hosted in Abbotsford, British Columbia. The vision was to stage a top tier internationally recognized running event that would attract a wide range of participants and athletes and, at the same time, raise awareness – and funds – for people in the developing world who lack one of life’s basic necessities – clean water. Since 2008, this volunteer board has staged an annual road race and now additionally organizes trail runs and gravel grind events.

Funds raised – over $4,000,000 to date – go towards helping building clean water projects in some of the most remote and marginalized areas of Ethiopia.

The IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s, presented by Go Auto, is the Alzheimer Society of B.C.’s largest fundraising event. The event will see participants in more than 20 communities across British Columbia walk together on Sunday, May 26, to honour and remember people affected by dementia. Funds raised through the Walk are instrumental in helping the Alzheimer Society of B.C. deliver local programs and services, as well as enabling research into the causes of and cures for dementia. Cascadia Wind Ensemble presents Let’s Dance

Cascadia Wind Ensemble’s final concert of the 23/24 season, “Let’s Dance”, is on Sunday May 26.  Join us for a celebration of music inspired by exciting dances from around the world – a tango, a mambo, folk dances, ballet dances, swing dances, and even a square dance.  We also have a very special soloist, Bernard Blary on flute – he will be featured in 3 selections including the breathtaking Carmen Fantasy.  Please join us at Matsqui Centennial Auditorium in Abbotsford on Sunday May 26 at 2:00 pm for this special concert.  Tickets, with reduced pricing for families, are available online at cascadia-dance24.eventbrite.ca, at King’s Music and at the door.
